Our Database Administrators work with SQL and Mongo Databases and ensure the delivery of an efficient and reliable environment. They work with big data clusters in Hadoop and Spark and quickly analyse the data to ensure business functions receive the information they need to make timely strategy adaptations and respond to evolving markets without impacting on existing production systems.


The location for this role is our Swansea office, we are currently trialling a mix of office and home working patterns at IQUW Group. During the selection process we will discuss indicative home / office patterns for this role.


Reporting to the IT Infrastructure Manager your main responsibilities in the role will be to:

  • Ensure all database servers are backed up in a way that meets the business’s Recovery Point Objectives (RPO)
  • Test backups to ensure we meet the business Recovery Time Objectives (RTO)
  • Troubleshoot SQL Server service outages as they occur, potentially requiring out of hours working
  • Configure SQL Server monitoring utilities to minimize false alarms
  • Actively monitor the SQL environment
  • Automate routine/non-routine DBA tasks and contribute to driving efficiency gains within the area
  • As systems are brought in-house, choose whether to use clustering, log shipping, mirroring, Windows Azure, or other technologies
  • When performance issues arise, determine the most effective way to increase performance including hardware purchases, server configuration changes, or index/query changes


About You

You will have significant experience in database development and providing support in MS SQL Server Environments with a strong exposure to Database administration in SQL Server (2008 – 2019). You will have the ability to detect and troubleshoot SQL Server related CPU Memory, disk space and other resource contention. You’ll also have experience of performing DR tests and have expert knowledge and experience of implementing operational automation. We’d also like to hear from you if you have:

  • Are experienced working with and supporting big data clusters
  • Experience with Hadoop and Spark Technologies
  • Experience with Cloud database Technologies
  • Solid knowledge of windows server, security delegation, SNPs and storage components
  • Excellent documentation skills for processes and procedures (creating KBs, runbooks, topology etc
